Dan Patrick Returns to Chicago Radio

Dan Patrick Returns to Chicago Radio

NEWS RELEASE

For Immediate Release

Media Contact:

(708) 320-1530

matt@WCKGChicago.com

Elmhurst, Illinois- Superstar sports personality Dan Patrick returns to Chicago radio as the new morning host at 1530 WCKG.  The Dan Patrick show airs live from 8am to 11am immediately following Chicago’s Mancow Muller on AM 1530.

The addition of Dan Patrick puts suburban WCKG in the unique position of having two of its radio stars simulcast on television in Chicago.

WCKG used to carry the syndicated Michael Savage show, that is, until Savage literally abandoned his 300+ affiliates (AM 1530 included) last September.  It was a move that irked WCKG General Manager Matt Dubiel, to say the least, and inspired him to post an open letter to Michael Savage on the WCKG website (www.1530WCKG.com).

Dubiel explains WCKG has a clear purpose, “AM 1530 WCKG is a suburban radio outlet super serving DuPage County.  We are working to make WCKG the single best option for local businesses who need to reach the over 3 million people under the coverage area of AM 1530, from Oak Brook, Hinsdale, Downers Grove, Rosemont, Elmhurst and beyond.  WCKG will broadcast the BEST content available for our Suburban listeners.  Dan Patrick and Mancow are radio stars who are going to help us shine our radio spotlight on the Suburbs.”

Mancow Muller’s show is geared toward pop culture, nearly absent of sports, while Dan Patrick’s show is sports centric (formerly aired on ESPN’s WMVP AM 1000).  It should be noted WCKG has made a commitment to Chicago sports since their relaunch in October of 2011, with twice hourly Chicago sports updates delivered by WCKG Sports Director Johnny Von.

Expect more from Johnny Von on WCKG.  Von is no stranger to the Chicago radio scene.  He was the overnight talk host on 97.9 (WLUP) during their FM Talk era, and well as a former WLS on air personality.  Perhaps more importantly, he’s a suburban native who ensconced in DuPage County.

Dubiel won’t tip his hand about all the upcoming additions to WCKG, but he has no problem sharing his excitement and enthusiasm about the bright future he expects for the station.  “It’s time to bring fun community radio back!  Corporate radio is going to get more divisive, political while catering to big box agency advertisers, while WCKG will get granular and grass roots…”

About WCKG AM 1530

In 2012, WCKG moved to AM 1530 under General Manager Matt Dubiel.  AM 1530 is a daytime AM radio station licensed to Elmhurst, IL.  Much like the original WSCR, WCKG broadcasts from sunrise to sunset.  On October 3, 2011, WCKG added Chicago radio personality Mancow Muller to morning and afternoon drive, with bombastic political talker Michael Savage in mid days.  On November 6, 2012, as America was re-electing President Obama, WCKG began airing the Dan Patrick show live from 8a-11am (weekdays).

The WCKG call letters have been part of the Chicago media landscape since February of 1985. While the Bears were in the Superbowl hunt, the Bulls were winning NBA Championships, the White Sox cinching a World Series victory, and the Cubs filling seats at Wrigley, WCKG was boasting superstar radio talent the likes of Steve Dahl, Howard Stern, Jonathon Brandmeier, Kevin Matthews, Penn Jillette, Garry Meier, Bill O’Reilly, Glenn Beck, Adam Carolla, Dr. Drew Pinski, and more.  That tradition continues in 2013 and beyond, with Mancow Muller, Dan Patrick, and Johnny Von, on AM 1530 WCKG.

95.9 The River Audio Wizard and ForceCast Host Jimmy Mac Hits Rosemont Comic Convention

DAILY HERALD:

ForceCast Host Jimmy MacThe ForceCast, billed as the official podcast of the “Star Wars” websites theforce.net and rebelscum.com, comes out every Friday. It can be found at forcecast.net and on iTunes. (It also airs at 1 p.m. every Sunday on WJJG 1530 AM.)

“There’s a big ‘Star Wars’ convention every year called ‘Star Wars Celebration,’ and that’s where I often get some great interviews,” McInerney said. “Mark Hamill is always a fantastic interview — he tells great stories and is still really into the whole thing. I liked talking to Carrie Fisher, too.”

McInerney and his wife, radio personality Wendy Snyder, have two sons, ages 9 and 13. Both are “Star Wars” fans, though McInerney said their passion for the films doesn’t come close to his.

“I try not to hit them over the head with it,” he said. “I love that so many younger kids are fans, though for many of them, it’s the (computer-animated television series) ‘Clone Wars’ that hooked them. But I think there’s something unique about being a fan for those of us who were there when it all started. I mean, I can actually remember a world without ‘Star Wars.’”

Friends and Family Remember Slain Rosemont Teen

Patch.com

By Cody Kituara

When Jessica Funk-Haslam was 5, she was a big fan of Chuck Norris.

At least that’s what it says on a trading card from her brief stint in martial arts.

About 100 friends, family and community members held a vigil Wednesday near the site in Rosemont Community Park where Jessica’s body was found Tuesday. Authorities are treating her death as a homicide, and as of Wednesday, didn’t have any suspects.

Jessica was remembered by her friends as a friendly girl with a quirky style. She was fond of knee-high socks and wore lots of pink, black and white to school at Albert Einstein Middle School.

“She was a kid anybody could identify on campus,” Principal Garrett Kirkland said. “She was her own person.”

Kirkland said he spent time Wednesday reading through responses Jessica filled out duringChallenge Day, the school’s anti-bullying campaign in October.
